Home movie - Taken by Bob and Helene Hoffman (couple at the beginning); Christmas and New Year's Eve 1953 (three different occasions) with the Hoffman family/friends in Jersey City and Elizabeth, NJ. Helene is my mom, from old 35mm home movies that were packed away for 60 years and I finally got to digitize. Her husband Bob passed in 1960 (she then later married my father), but she lived a long...

Full at bat, with Lindsey Nelson doing the play-by-play. In his debut with the New York Mets, Willie Mays leads off the 5th inning in a 4-4 game with the San Francisco Giants at Shea Stadium with a solo home run to left for the eventual winning run (5-4 final). Photos shown in video are actually from this game. Short clip from the TV feed is synced as well (at 2:33). Like baseball history? Chec...

At the awards show, Mary breaks the news to Sue Ann that her date made a pass at Mary, and Sue Ann is despondent (for a while); stick around for the ending (and great laughs from the incomparable Ted Knight as well)! One of Betty White’s finest performances (of many) on the MTM show. RIP Ms. White.
Bob Murphy doing Boston Red Sox PBP (only known clip) vs New York Yankees, 7/9/1959 (short)
Переглядів 7232 роки тому
Legendary broadcaster Bob Murphy, doing play-by-play for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in 1959! Before his long-time tenure with the New York Mets (1962-2003), Murphy began his MLB career with the Red Sox (1954-1959, alongside Curt Gowdy), then the Baltimore Orioles (1960-1961), before moving to the Mets in 1962. No full games of Murphy broadcasting with either the Red Sox or Orioles have b...
1960 World Series - Game 7 - Hal Smith's 3-run HR in the Bottom of the 8th Inning
Переглядів 2,9 тис.5 років тому
With the Pirates down 7-6 in the Bottom of the 8th inning of Game 7 of the 1960 World Series, with 2 outs, Hal Smith blasts a 3-run HR off the Yankees' Jim Coates to put the Bucs up 9-7 and only 3 outs away from the Championship. But the champagne would have to wait one more inning as the Yanks tied it in the top of the 9th, only to have Bill Mazeroski eclipse Hal Smith as the Game 7 hero. Like...

Red Barber, along with Mel Allen on the Mutual Radio Network, bring you the entire bottom of the 9th (only one batter) as the Yankees' Tommy Henrich breaks a scoreless tie in Game 1 of the 1949 World Series by launching a game-winning HR into the right field stands at Yankee Stadium off the Dodgers' hard luck loser Don Newcombe, the first walk-off HR in World Series history! 30 second or so fil...
Frasier - "It's only a chair" - S1E19 - John Mahoney
Переглядів 160 тис.6 років тому
In remembrance of John Mahoney (1940-2018). The success of Frasier is not only due to its superb writing and intelligent humor, but developing the characters further by adding touches of serious drama, and also having actors with the talent to pull it off. From S1E19, "Give Him The Chair", this is among Mr. Mahoney's best monologues of the entire series.
Bobby Doerr - Fenway Park 4/18/38 vs Yankees (Opening Day) - game moments

    Great video and the surprise was that we saw Willie hit this full-count home run. What a fantastic swing! I love the way he stepped into the swing with such power and athleticism. His playing weight was about 170 pounds, lighter than virtually any player today.

    This is not a criticism on Red Barber, only an observation. Years ago I saw an interview with Red where he was asked how he called Jackie Robinson’s first game. He said that he treated Jackie like any other player. In the movie “42” Red was portrayed as describing Jackie’s first at bat by saying something along the lines of that he had a tan complexion. In this game (3 years later) he mentions Bankhead is the first negro (common term of the era and I don’t believe he meant it in a derogatory way) and Hank Thompson as the first negro player on the Giants. All that said, I am betting he described Jackie Robinson’s first game exactly the way he described Bankhead and Thompson. That’s just an interesting historical observation that I thought I would share.

    • @alpineinc1
      @alpineinc1 Місяць тому

      I would think your assumption is correct, but as you state the term “negro” was common parlance in the day. That said, Barber has said and written about how, coming from the deep South, he did struggle with Jackie’s promotion, but ultimately he just treated him as a fellow man and as a ballplayer, and learned a great deal from the experience. Love your channel, by the way!

    Ahh, the great Venetia charity concert for Nancy’s Yogurt. I love Bird Song, but I adore Jerry’s 1st solo album, I play this album regularl still, since I got in 1974, the year I first saw the GD, I saw them so many times over the years. Bought tickets for shows in December 1968 & May 1973, both concerts were canceled, I final took the midnight flight to San Francisco and went for my 1st Dead concert in June 1974. Folks.. Let's not forget the creativity of the writers who made this possible. The writers understood the characters and wrote to their strengths. Unlike other shows (Dynasty), the inclusion of new characters did not spoil the balance of the show but added additional layers. Betty White was powerhouse and sits at the top of the mountain top. To this day, I cannot see what was so great about 'Friends'. The writing was average and the actors pale in comparison to the MTM Show cast.
